Mobility Images

by J. Mingé

These mobility images taken by Jeanine M. Mingé introduce the complex and isolating process of travel in Los Angeles.

The Lock.

The lock of the urban masses, like iron plates that crank shut inside a bank vault—people sit inside houses that sit inches from the other. The urban masses locked inside cars that swarm up and down the highways. In Los Angeles two hours for twelve miles may seem like a reasonable commute time. We are locked inside the tin and steel of the commuter world and in the plastic and plaster of apartments and houses that seemingly protect us from sirens, from the mad man.
